Loneliness however is an issue in our society today and there are many of us in Yarra Junction who suffer from it.
We want to help ease it in every way we can, by being kind to one another and getting out to meet each other in person. Join us to celebrate Good
Neighbour Month!
With the support and participation of the Yarra Junction community and utilizing the resources of Relationships Australia we aim to reduce isolation and loneliness and strengthen social bonds for a more resilient community.
“Loneliness in Australia has been identified as the next public health epidemic of the 21st century”
from the Yarra Ranges Health & Wellbeing Profile, 2024 /25 (page 149).
During Good Neighbour Month everyone is invited to participate in various ways, from hosting a BBQ to organising a street party, or simply reaching out to someone new. Every action contributes to building more resilient and supportive neighbourhoods:
- Inspire and grow belonging through positive actions, creating a ripple effect in communities.
- Practice self-kindness and extend it to others, embracing growth through making an effort.
- Actively invite others to join your group or community.
- Cultivate empathy and compassion to deepen connections.
- Celebrate diversity and learn from different perspectives.
By emphasising Good Neighbours in one month of the year we would be hoping to have an impact for the whole year, as Yarra Junction becomes a place and a people committed to a culture of being good neighbours, the friendliest town around.

- Sunday 1st March – Clean Up Australia Day. Give back to your town by picking up a piece of rubbish or two.
- Wednesday 4th March – Zine Workshop. 4pm to 7pm at the Yarra Junction Primary School.
All ages welcome. Free and fun.
No RSVP necessary just turn up and enjoy.
- Friday 1st March – Family Walk. 9.30am to 10.30am. Meet at the Yarra Centre.
- Sunday 8th March – Yarra Junction Community Market. 8am to 2pm.

- Friday 13th March – Family Walk 9.30am to 10.30am. Meet at the Yarra Centre.
- Friday 13th March – Friday Night Music,. From 6pm.

- Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th March – CRANK UP. Heritage and Community Festival at the Upper Yarra Museum.
10am to 4pm both days.
Food trucks, displays and fun activities for all.
